On the Amcor site in Ghent, there is an 82m high chimney. Subcontractor Mende has demolished it down to 30m using a spider-like robot that "eats away" the chimney from the top. The debris falls inside the chimney and is collected at the bottom.
The bottom 30m will be demolished using our high reach Volvo after the construction holiday. Enjoy the impressive footage.
The rest of the project involves the complete demolition of various buildings, consisting of both concrete and steel structures. All of this is happening in close proximity to several buildings in full production, which adds some complexity.
There are also numerous asbestos applications within the power plant, to be removed through both simple handling and hermetic zone procedures.
The demolition works at the former power plant are currently in progress.
